being without explanation and perhaps made by the Commandant in Town. These may be
men for recruiting teams, cooks, messmen or officers’ servants etc which are not otherwise
mentioned. Unskilled domestic tasks and daily fatigues were no doubt assigned to recruits
or those passing through.]
